Cheer bows are expensive hair bows so it is very important to be sure that you are taking care of them. You want your cheer bows to last for a long time; that way you do not need to keep replacing them every few months.  Remember, cheer bows go through a lot of wear and tear since cheerleaders jump around, tumble, and travel often with their uniforms and bows.  Cheer hair accessories need to be taken care of to last throughout the whole season.  To best care for your bow, it is suggested that you do not keep it just thrown in your sports bag. Instead take care to put it in a hard plastic container so it does not get squished and it will last a lot longer.  If it does get messed up a little bit and you need to make it more perky again, you can try to spray it with a extra hold hairspray or even a product at craft stores called “Stiffen Stuff” which you can spray on the ribbon and then use a hairdryer to dry it quickly.  Bows with sequins need extra care too since you do not want to have to spray them because the sequins will be very dull and not shiny if they are covered in hairspray.

A final care tip about cheer bows is to remember that if the edges start to fray a little bit, you can easily take care of this with a lighter.  Please use caution when working with a lighter since it is hot and young girls should not do this without adult supervision.  All you need to do is pass the frayed portion of the ribbon quickly by the lighter and it will seal the ends.  There is also a product at craft stores called “Fray Check” that you can wipe on the edges.  Only use this if you have some time for it to dry since it takes some time.  The lighter method if much easier and faster because you can use it at last minute right before a competition to fix any last minute frayed ends that might show up.
